HEBRON SPORTS DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE
SPACE CHANGES THE GAME.
THROW. CATCH. COVER. COMPETE.
HSDI 7v7 develops football skill in space. Athletes learn to release, run routes, catch, cover, communicate, recognize concepts, and make decisions at game speed in a fast, competitive environment.
THE DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT
7v7 removes the line play and tackling of traditional football and creates more opportunities for quarterbacks, receivers, running backs, tight ends, linebackers, and defensive backs to develop in space.
Athletes repeatedly align, communicate, release, run, throw, catch, cover, react, and make football decisions.
01
MORE SPACE
PLAY IN THE OPEN FIELD
Athletes learn spacing, leverage, route relationships, coverage positioning, and movement in space.
02
MORE REPS
REPEAT MEANINGFUL ACTIONS
More opportunities to align, communicate, release, throw, catch, cover, and react.
03
MORE DECISIONS
READ. REACT. EXECUTE.
Players repeatedly process information and make football decisions at game speed.
THE HSDI SYSTEM
HSDI 7v7 develops more than routes and catches. Repetition is organized around the technical, mental, and competitive skills athletes need to execute football in space.
01
ROUTE DEVELOPMENT
CREATE SPACE WITH DETAIL.
Develop releases, stems, leverage, spacing, breaks, timing, and route execution.
02
THROWING
DELIVER WITH TIMING.
Develop quarterback rhythm, ball placement, anticipation, decision-making, and timing with receivers.
03
COVERAGE
SEE SPACE. DEFEND SPACE.
Develop leverage, communication, recognition, positioning, reaction, and coverage execution.
04
FOOTBALL IQ
UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU SEE.
Develop recognition of alignments, spacing, leverage, route concepts, coverage structures, and situational football.
05
COMPETITIVE HABITS
COMMUNICATE. RESPOND. COMPETE.
Develop preparation, communication, composure, effort, accountability, and competitive response.
TECHNIQUE CREATES THE REP.
PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
LEARN THE GAME. THEN PLAY IT FASTER.
Practice builds the skill. Competition tests the understanding.
BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL
DEVELOP THE COMPLETE FOOTBALL PLAYER.
Young athletes benefit from understanding football from multiple perspectives. HSDI 7v7 develops offensive and defensive skills while teaching athletes how space, leverage, timing, and communication affect every rep.
OFFENSE
Quarterback development · Route running · Releases and leverage · Catching and ball skills · Spacing and timing · Concept recognition · Communication
DEFENSE
Coverage movement · Leverage and positioning · Transitions and recovery · Ball skills · Route recognition · Communication · Situational awareness
Understanding one side of the ball helps athletes understand the other.
TRANSFERABLE DEVELOPMENT
Straight-line speed matters, but football requires athletes to accelerate, decelerate, change direction, control space, react to opponents, and reproduce quality movement across repeated plays. HSDI 7v7 connects the movement developed through Performance and Track & Speed with football-specific execution.
Develop the movement. Apply it to football.
01
ACCELERATION
Create separation and close space.
02
CHANGE OF DIRECTION
Control the body through routes and coverage.
03
REACTION
Respond to movement, leverage, and the football.
04
REPEATED SPEED
Execute quality movement across multiple competitive reps.
SEASONAL DEVELOPMENT
7v7 creates a spring football-development environment without recreating the physical demands of a fall tackle season. It works alongside Track & Speed so athletes can continue developing movement while applying football skills in space.

THE HSDI APPROACH
7v7 develops important parts of football—but it does not replace complete football development. HSDI uses it as one environment within a larger system.

HOW WE TRAIN
HSDI practices are designed to create high repetition without sacrificing instruction. Coaches teach the technique and concept, athletes rep it, corrections are made, and the skill is progressively placed into competitive situations.
Repetition matters. Correct repetition matters more.
THE PRACTICE CYCLE
01
TEACH
ESTABLISH THE STANDARD
Introduce the technique, assignment, concept, or decision the athlete is expected to execute.
02
REP
BUILD THE PATTERN
Create repeated opportunities for athletes to perform the skill with purpose and consistency.
03
CORRECT
COACH THE DETAIL
Identify errors, provide specific feedback, and give the athlete an immediate opportunity to apply the correction.
04
COMPETE
APPLY IT UNDER PRESSURE
Place the skill into competitive situations where athletes must execute, communicate, react, and make decisions.
Learn the skill individually. Connect it with teammates. Apply it in competition.
01
INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT
BUILD THE SKILL
Position-specific technique, movement, releases, routes, throwing mechanics, coverage technique, footwork, and other individual fundamentals.
02
GROUP DEVELOPMENT
CONNECT THE SKILL
Athletes apply individual technique within route combinations, quarterback-receiver timing, coverage relationships, communication, spacing, and small-group concepts.
03
COMPETITIVE REPS
TEST THE SKILL
Players execute learned techniques and concepts against live opposition where recognition, communication, decision-making, and competitive response matter.
Teach the skill. Repeat it correctly. Apply it competitively.
THE PATH FORWARD
7v7 is not the destination. The skills developed in spring should transfer forward into summer preparation and the complete game in fall.
EVERYTHING SHOULD LEAD SOMEWHERE.
EXPLORE HSDI FOOTBALL

THE COACHING STANDARD
Young athletes need more than plays. HSDI coaches teach technique, alignment, assignment, concept, and the decision behind the rep so athletes understand why football works.
TEACH THE WHY
Athletes should understand the purpose behind the assignment.
CORRECT THE REP
Technique improves through instruction, repetition, and feedback.
DEVELOP DECISION-MAKERS
Teach athletes to recognize, communicate, adjust, and play with confidence.
DON’T JUST TELL THEM WHERE TO GO. TEACH THEM WHY THEY’RE GOING THERE.
FOR PARENTS
A development program works best when coaches, athletes, and families understand the standard.
01
ORGANIZED DEVELOPMENT
Purposeful practices, meaningful repetitions, and progressive instruction.
02
CLEAR COMMUNICATION
Families understand expectations, schedules, and program standards.
03
COMPETITIVE STANDARDS
Athletes arrive prepared, compete, respond to coaching, and support teammates.
04
DEVELOPMENT OVER TIME
Progress is evaluated across a season—not from one play or one game.
DEVELOPMENT SHOULD BE VISIBLE OVER TIME—NOT JUDGED FROM ONE PLAY OR ONE GAME.
