HEBRON SPORTS DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE
BUILD THE PLAYER. THEN BUILD THE TEAM.
Movement. Skill. Decision-making. Toughness. Team basketball.
HSDI Basketball develops young athletes through progressive skill development, competitive team play, and an environment built around teaching the game correctly.
MORE THAN GAMES.
Youth basketball should be more than assembling a roster, learning a few plays, and playing a weekend schedule. HSDI Basketball is designed as a developmental program where athletes learn the skills, movement, decisions, habits, and team concepts that allow them to become better basketball players over time. Players learn to handle the ball, pass, shoot, defend, move without the ball, communicate, compete, and understand how their individual responsibility affects the team.
The objective is not simply to play more basketball. The objective is to learn how to play basketball better.

THE BASKETBALL PATHWAY
LEARN IT. APPLY IT. COMPETE WITH IT.
HSDI Basketball develops athletes progressively. Early players need a strong introduction to movement and fundamental skills. As athletes mature, those fundamentals must translate into decision-making, team concepts, and increasingly competitive basketball.
STAGE 01
FOUNDATION
Learn movement, ball control, passing, shooting mechanics, defensive habits, spacing, and the basic language of basketball.
STAGE 02
PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
Build stronger individual skills, decision-making, defensive responsibility, court awareness, and understanding of team concepts.
STAGE 03
COMPETITIVE BASKETBALL
Apply developed skills against stronger competition while learning how to execute, communicate, adjust, and contribute to winning team basketball.
PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
THE COMPLETE BASKETBALL PLAYER.
MOVEMENT
Balance, coordination, acceleration, deceleration, change of direction, body control, footwork, and the ability to move efficiently in space.
BALL SKILLS
Ball handling, passing, receiving, finishing, shooting mechanics, footwork with the ball, and developing confidence under pressure.
BASKETBALL IQ
Spacing, timing, court awareness, defensive positioning, transition decisions, reading advantage situations, and understanding how individual decisions affect the team.
COMPETITIVE HABITS
Effort, defensive toughness, communication, rebounding mentality, preparation, resilience, consistency, and learning to compete possession by possession.
TEAM RESPONSIBILITY
Playing with teammates, sharing the ball, understanding roles, communicating, responding to coaching, making the extra play, and putting team success ahead of individual statistics.

BETTER ATHLETES BECOME BETTER BASKETBALL PLAYERS.
Basketball requires more than basketball skill. Young players benefit from developing speed, coordination, balance, strength, spatial awareness, body control, and the ability to solve movement problems in different environments. HSDI therefore supports multi-sport participation rather than requiring young athletes to specialize in basketball year-round. Football, Track & Speed, Indoor Soccer, Performance, 7v7, and other athletic experiences can develop qualities that transfer back to the basketball court.
THE SEASON
DEVELOPMENT MEETS COMPETITION.
HSDI Basketball combines an HSDI-controlled development environment with structured outside competition. HSDI owns the basketball program: team formation, coaching standards, developmental philosophy, practice structure, uniforms, culture, and athlete expectations. The external league provides the competition platform.
COMPETITION MODEL
HSDI Basketball competes through Plano Sports Authority (PSA). K–2 teams participate in PSA Recreational basketball, creating an appropriate introduction to organized competition while athletes build foundational skills and confidence. Grades 3–6 participate through PSA Select at an appropriate competitive level, allowing developing HSDI teams to face stronger competition as athletes progress. As participation grows, HSDI may field multiple teams within a grade level so athletes can be placed in appropriate developmental and competitive environments.
COMPETITION PROGRESSION
K–2
BUILD THE FOUNDATION.
PSA RECREATIONAL
Learning the game. Fundamental skills. Confidence, movement, teamwork, and positive competitive experiences.
GRADES 3–6
RAISE THE COMPETITION.
PSA SELECT
Greater competitive demands with continued skill development, basketball intelligence, defensive responsibility, team execution, decision-making, and communication.
Competition should challenge development—not replace it.
THE PROGRAM
A PLACE TO GROW.
HSDI Basketball is designed for elementary-age athletes within the Hebron community who want to learn the game, improve their skills, and compete as part of an organized developmental program.
EARLY DEVELOPMENT — K–2
The early years establish the foundation. Athletes are introduced to ball control, passing, shooting mechanics, defense, spacing, movement, teamwork, and the basic structure of organized basketball.
DEVELOPING COMPETITORS — GRADES 3–6
As athletes progress, practices and competition place greater demands on skill execution, decision-making, defensive responsibility, basketball intelligence, communication, and team play.
OUR COMMUNITY — HSDI primarily serves athletes and families connected to the Hebron High School attendance area and surrounding Hebron-zoned communities.

THE PRACTICE ENVIRONMENT
TOUCH THE BALL. MAKE DECISIONS. GET BETTER.
Young basketball players improve through purposeful repetition, instruction, decision-making, and competitive application. HSDI practices should maximize meaningful player involvement rather than leaving athletes standing in lines or watching extended drills. Skill work must eventually connect to basketball decisions. Players need opportunities to dribble, pass, shoot, defend, communicate, read space, solve problems, and compete.

THE HSDI STANDARD
Basketball constantly requires young athletes to respond. A missed shot becomes transition defense. A turnover requires recovery. A mistake cannot become the next mistake. HSDI uses basketball to teach athletes to communicate, remain composed, compete through adversity, accept coaching, fulfill their responsibilities, and stay connected to the team. Those habits matter beyond a scoreboard.
Compete. Respond. Learn. Move to the next play.
YEAR-ROUND DEVELOPMENT
HSDI Basketball exists within a larger multi-sport athlete-development system. Each sport exposes young athletes to different movement demands, decisions, competitive situations, and opportunities to develop.
TRACK & SPEED — Develop speed, acceleration, mechanics, and competitive movement.
FOOTBALL — Physical confidence, spatial awareness, reaction, communication, toughness, and team responsibility.
INDOOR SOCCER — Develop footwork, conditioning, spatial awareness, and rapid decision-making.
PERFORMANCE — Develop movement quality, strength foundations, acceleration, coordination, and athletic capacity.
7V7 — Open-space movement, communication, recognition, reaction, and decision-making.
Different sports develop different tools. HSDI connects those tools into a more complete athlete.

THE COACHING STANDARD
Young basketball players need coaches who teach rather than simply direct. HSDI coaches are expected to explain fundamentals, correct technique, create purposeful practices, teach team concepts, communicate clearly, demand appropriate standards, and help athletes understand why decisions matter.
A good youth coach does more than tell players what happened. A good coach helps them understand what happens next.
FOR PARENTS
Families should expect organized practices, developmental coaching, clear communication, appropriate competition, defined behavioral standards, and a program designed around long-term athlete development. Playing time, roles, competition, and team decisions should be understood within the larger developmental purpose of the program. In return, HSDI expects families to support attendance, punctuality, sportsmanship, coachability, team commitments, and an environment where athletes are allowed to learn through both success and mistakes.
Athletes develop best when coaches, players, and parents reinforce the same standards.
